Why LaGrange?

Every 3 months TBM publishes a new issue of the TBM News.  This time around, I had the opportunity to write an article that expresses the unique place that God has allowed us to serve.  God has used this place to grow the ministry opportunities that TBM has the privilege of being a part of.  I have also attached the full September 2017 issue of the TBM News.  As you read the article below, please pray for us…that God would continually grow us in how we can serve Him through serving TBM missionaries all over the world!  What you do for us through prayer and support is more valuable than we can communicate

Why LaGrange?

August of 2011, my family and I moved from Utah to LaGrange, WY to serve in the Home Office of Tentmakers Bible Mission.  I have had many opportunities over the years to share the ministry that God has placed us in.  When I get to the part about LaGrange being a small town in rural Wyoming with a population of around 400, I am usually met with a look of shock and the question, “Why LaGrange?”.

The Home Office of TBM has had a few locations since it was founded in 1985.  The first was in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the small personal office of the Mission’s secretary.  Years later, Rocky Mountain Bible Church in Frisco, Colorado provided the second location by allowing TBM to use office space in their building.  Then, in 2009, through God’s provision TBM was able to purchase the current Home Office facility and place it in LaGrange.  This meant big changes for the operational side of TBM.  Among other changes was that of owning a facility rather than using borrowed office space.  Board and staff meetings, TBM’s daily operations, and TBM Candidate School could now take place in a centralized location.  The new space allows for maintaining guest rooms for visitors including missionaries home on furlough.  These are all benefits of the new location, but the question remains, “Why LaGrange?”.  TBM could have chosen a more populated area, right?

We believe that a key reason God provided our location in LaGrange is because of its strategic position which helps TBM to fulfill the Mission that God has called us to: “TBM exists to plant Bible-teaching churches throughout the world”.  LaGrange is unique.  Not only does it provide a quiet, small town setting for accomplishing the daily tasks that keep the Mission running, but the facility is a short walk from the campus of Frontier School of the Bible.  Over the years God has allowed many contacts with students who are preparing for work in the ministry.  Since relocating, God has led many to become TBM church planting missionaries and, at present, nearly half are alumni of FSB.  Our Home Office staff often have opportunities to speak at FSB’s chapel services, teach courses at the school, and interact with students in their free time.  FSB also hosts three Missions Conferences a year that allow TBM to present ministry opportunities to the students, but also allows for interaction and networking with leaders from other Mission Agencies.  TBM has been able to open our facility to professors at FSB to occasionally hold classes here, to other Mission Agencies for their events, and to the local church for Sunday School.

We are thankful to God for this unique place that has allowed TBM to effectively work toward the church planting goals that He has placed on our hearts.  If you happen to be in LaGrange, come for a visit!  We would love to show you how God has answered the question, “Why LaGrange?”!

Like Riding a Bike

July 2016 was the inaugural ride for the Tour de LaGrange, a 114 mile, two day bike ride to benefit the church planting ministries of Tentmakers Bible Mission.  We are excited to share that the 2nd Annual Tour de LaGrange will be taking place July 3-4 of this year!

An article was written (which can be viewed with this link…Cross Times April/May 2017) about how the Lord inspired this bike ride and how the idea became both a fundraiser for TBM and a way to have candid conversations about the Gospel.  Below are some pictures we took of the article, but it may be easier to read by using the link above.

Sarah and I have the privilege of meeting each rider as they arrive in LaGrange and showing them to the TBM Home Office building for a cool place to rest after their ride.  Last year, I also had the opportunity to share the unique ministry of Tentmakers with a captive audience.  What a wonderful God we have!

Thank you for praying for this exciting ministry opportunity and thank you for your love for us and support of the ministry God has called us to at the Home Office!

Auxano

Lately my thoughts have been gravitating toward the theme of our ministry at the TBM Home Office.  The conclusion I have come to is that we are here for the mission of promoting GROWTH!  What is church planting?  GROWTH of the worldwide church.  What is discipleship?  GROWTH of the individual believer.  What is my place in all of this?  Promoting that GROWTH by standing behind our missionaries who are on the field in the “trenches” of church planting and discipleship (and the myriad of other ministries they do!).

So, what is “Auxano”?  It is an ancient Greek word that means “to grow” or “to cause growth”.  We know that in church planting and discipleship that God is the only One who can truly accomplish this, yet He calls us to take part in the process.  So we do!  And that is what I want the focus to be of our website from here on forward.
Launching our inCLINEd to Serve site has a dual purpose:

1: To refocus what we communicate to you about our ministry.

2:  To serve as a “home base” to connect with all of you and keep you better informed!
So, what can you do to be informed and involved in this promotion of GROWTH?

Look to the right =>>>              And up ^^^^^^^^

What’s the big deal?
The chicken definitely came first!

So, in our case we know that the chicken came first, for sure. We’ve been feeding the things since before Easter and now, they are finally going to start feeding us! No, we aren’t going to have more meat on the table, but we ARE celebrating because in the last 2 days, our chickens have laid their first 2 eggs.

Yep, fresh “farm” eggs is all I have to say. The picture on the top is the first egg, laid yesterday…and you guessed it, the second picture is the second egg, laid today. The funny thing is, I never realized how hilarious chickens would sound when they are laying an egg. I’m even laughing a little bit right now thinking about it. But…on to the more important issue…in our case, the chicken came first, then the egg(s). Also, if you are wondering, yes, those are fake golf balls in there too. We put those in there, because, you see, chickens are not all that smart…actually to be more accurate, they are downright stupid. So, we put in these “round egg looking things” to help them to know where to sit when they are laying an egg. I don’t really know if that’s what helped them, but one way or the other it worked. All I know is that my egg sandwiches will taste much better now! No more Walmart eggs…Yipee!
